Paraparaumu Waste Water Treatment Plant sludge drying

The waste treatment plant includes a sludge drying plant which operates continuously with the boiler forming an integral part of the final stage of drying sludge.
Description of facility:

The boiler installed is a highly-specified 500kW Binder SRF-S step-grate combustion system and will be one of the highest duty boilers in New Zealand, with anticipated annual run hours of 8,540. This is equivalent to an availability level in excess of 97%

Capable of burning woodchip, agricultural by-products and food processing residues with moisture levels as high as 55%, the Binder boiler is perfectly suited to the demanding task at Paraparaumu. Working in partnership with local construction companies and suppliers, Living Energy was responsible for the construction of the new boiler house and fuel store - which is capable of holding around 230 cubic metres of fuel - and for the installation and commissioning of the high temperature hot water boiler.
