Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre

A new 500kW Binder wood boiler heating the outdoor Olympic Pool and paddling pool in Mount Gambier, South Australia.
Description of facility:

A 500kW Binder wood boiler heating an outdoor Olympic Pool and paddling pool, in Mount Gambier, South Australia. It replaced an old Anga and Varme (Swedish) wood boiler, that was well-past its sell-by date. It was fired for the first time in early October. It's running on chipped forestry waste, which is left in-forest for several months to dry out, then chipped directly into trucks. The pool boiler piggy-backs on the back of a supply chain set up to feed the Carter Holt Harvey panels plant in the town. Over 150,000 tonnes are sourced annually in this manner, so another 500 tonnes is not a lot. There is plenty more available, so heat users in the area should be able to tap into a good quality fuel supply chain which already realises economies of scale.
